We are forwarding to you copy of DOT letter regarding the holding of MICE events per IATF Resolution No. 87
For your guidance and reference.
LETTER FROM THE DOT SECRETARY
04 December 2020
ATTY. EUGENE YAP
President
Hotel and Restaurant Association of the Philippines (HRAP)
Room 4016 Golden Rock Building, 168 Salcedo Street, Legaspi Village, Makati City 1229
Dear Atty. Yap:
We wish to inform you that the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) published the IATF Resolution No. 87 which ratifies the decision of the IATF Technical Working Group to allow the conduct of meetings, incentives, conventions, and exhibition events in the following venues in areas under General Community Quarantine:
- Restaurants, in general;
- Restaurants attached to hotels;
- Ballrooms and function halls within hotels;
- Venues within hotel premises; and
- Mall atria
These events shall be limited to workshops, trainings, seminars, congresses, conferences, conventions, board meetings, colloquia, conclaves, symposia, and consumer trade shows, and shall be allowed up to thirty percent (30%) of the venue capacity. The Department of Tourism and the Department of Trade and Industry are directed to jointly issue guidelines in furtherance thereof. The foregoing is without prejudice to stricter protocols which may be imposed by the local government units where these eligible venues may be located.
While the resolution allows the conduct of certain MICE events listed above, the following events remain prohibited: social events (i.e. birthdays, weddings, Christmas and office parties, pageants, award events, gala receptions, shows), product launch events, political gatherings, cultural festivities, and sporting events.
With the approval of the resumption of MICE under IATF Resolution No. 87, we are optimistic that the sector shall begin to thrive once more. Rest assured that Department of Tourism shall meticulously work on the guidelines and policies together with the Department of Trade and Industry to make sure that health and safety protocols are maintained in this latest development.
Once again, we thank you for your unwavering support to the Department of Tourism.
Together, we shall arise as one.
Sincerely,
BERNADETTE ROMULO-PUYAT
Department of Tourism Secretary
