DOT expo in Clark seen to set NorthPhil as int’l tourism hub

NorthPhil Expo 2014

An international expo being organized by the Department of Tourism is seen to boost the rise of North Philippines as a global tourism hub centered on Clark with its airport’s ever-increasing passenger volume and huge, yet highly expandable, capacity for both international and domestic air traffic.

DOT Central Luzon Regional Director Ronaldo P. Tiotuico said the forthcoming NorthPhil Expo 2014 would further highlight the inevitability of the Clark International Airport emerging as a premier global gateway even by mere capacity alone.

“The current and potential capacity of our airport (Clark) can complement, absorb and conveniently accommodate any spillover airlines from NAIA (Ninoy Aquino International Airport), prompting foreign carriers to give Clark some serious considerations.

On Visiting America

Visiting America
Article by: Dennis E. Chua, Esq.

The Philippine Department of Tourism has been receiving complaints from the public that some individuals and entities charge a service fee of around P300,000 to supposedly assist them in their applications for a US visitor’s visa before the US Embassy in Manila. Worse, some of these individuals and entities claim that they have a contact working at the US Embassy in Manila which will almost guarantee the issuance of a US visitor’s visa. Despite the representation and assistance by these individuals and entities, most of these hopeful visa applicants get denied of their US visitor’s visas. The denial of these applications is even being blamed on the applicants themselves for their failure to properly respond to the questions of the US consular officer.

June 4 – 7, 2014, Fontana Convention Center, Clark, Pampanga, Philippines

M.I.C.E. stands for Meetings, Incentive Travel, Conventions, and Exhibitions / Events. It represents specialized sectors of tourism which require higher standards of tourism services and facilities.

First held in 2010, the Philippine M.I.C.E. Conference (MICECON) is the integration of two major Philippine M.I.C.E. Projects: the long-running Philippine Incentive Marketing Conference (Phil-Incentive) organized by the Philippine Convention and Visitors Corporation / Tourism Promotions Board, and Meetings, Incentive Travel, Events / Exhibitions Philippines, Inc. (MITE Philippines); and the Philippine Asian MICE Forum organized by the Philippine Association of Convention / Exhibition Organizers and Suppliers (PACEOS).

TPB, CDC join hands to turn NorthPhils into M.I.C.E. hub

Two government agencies are out to turn Central and Northern Luzon into a preferred destination for meetings, incentive travel, conventions and exhibits/events (M.I.C.E.).

The Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) and the Clark Development Corporation (CDC) have bonded together for that purpose, taking note of North Philippines’ emerging facilities and attractions for the domestic and international M.I.C.E. requirements.

An agreement between TPB chief operating officer Domingo Ramon C. Enerio III and CDC chief executive officer Arthur P. Tugade signaled the start of activities toward that goal.

Next week (April 14 - 20), all roads will surely lead to Cutud, City of San Fernando, and so for a change, why not avoid the madding crowd, take the road less traveled, and discover these little-known Holy Week events in Pampanga:

1. The PASYON SERENATA of Brgy. San Basilio in Sta. Rita (Holy Wednesday evening). You’ve heard the pasyon, you’ve heard the serenata, but I’m sure you haven’t heard the pasyon serenata, which is the Holy Week version of this unique Kapampangan fiesta spectacle. It’s a showdown between two brass bands and their respective choirs who try to outperform each other by chanting the pasyon to the tune of classical operas. They play all night long, one page at a time, until they finish the whole book. The sight and sound of betel-chewing barrio folks singing the entire history of salvation in Kapampangan and to the tune of Verdi and Puccini will blow you away. Despite their “guegue” it’s a performance worthy of a concert hall instead of some dusty road in a remote farming village.
